Overview

Restoran New Generation 新一代海鲜美食馆, nestled in the heart of Shah Alam’s Setia Alam district, offers an engaging blend of traditional Chinese flavors with a touch of modern comfort. This establishment stands out as a solid choice for diners seeking authentic Chinese seafood delicacies paired with classic home-style dishes. Its location along Persiaran Setia Prima makes it accessible for both locals and visitors exploring Selangor’s vibrant food scene.

The restaurant’s strength lies in its diverse menu, which highlights regional favorites like Nyonya Style Fish Fillet and their signature crispy pork belly dressed in a homemade sauce. These dishes demonstrate a careful balance between bold spices and delicate textures, true to the culinary heritage they represent. Equally commendable are the vegetable options such as the sautéed sweet potato leaves and Qing Long Cai, which bring fresh, vibrant greens with simple yet flavorful garlic seasoning. These sides complement the richer proteins and bring a refreshing balance to the meal.

diners can enjoy a variety of set menus offering well-rounded meals that include mains like pork rib mee or ginger wine beehoon, complete with soup and dessert. These sets cater well to small groups or families looking for convenient, satisfying options without compromising variety. The restaurant also takes pride in its daily desserts, such as the soothing green bean soup, which provides a comforting finish to any meal.

Within the welcoming ambiance, the dining area strikes a balance between casual and cozy, accommodating both everyday meals and special family gatherings. Customers often highlight the responsiveness and friendliness of the staff, creating a laid-back environment where service feels attentive without being intrusive. While the kitchen tends to serve dishes promptly—a valued trait in a busy dining spot—there have been mixed opinions on portion sizes and consistency, especially from longtime patrons who note slight changes over time.

As a destination, Restoran New Generation appeals mostly to traditional Chinese cuisine enthusiasts, families, and groups seeking authentic seafood and classic regional dishes. Despite some variability, the overall experience continues to attract returning customers who appreciate the thoughtful menu selection and the steady quality of many staple dishes. It embodies a blend of nostalgia and contemporary practicality, making it a noteworthy stop for those craving genuine Malaysian Chinese flavors in a friendly, approachable setting.

Overall food is not bad, served pretty quick. Service is ok, the staffs are quick on their feet. They’ve been around for the longest time and yet we have not stepped in. A family friend highly recommended this place, so we thought let’s have ia go… Stir fry sweet potato leaf is nice, sweet and sour pork is ok. The butter mantis prawn is a bit dry unfortunately. The deep fried egg plant isn’t really deep fried actually. They have sets for dine in at a reasonable price depending on how many pax. With the set, you get white rice, soup and tea.

Updated 9/12/2022: The marmite chicken is not good. The chicken is fried till very hard, and there is hardly any meat. It is expensive at the price of RM 27 (Foodpanda). Nov 2022: Their Singapore meehoon, fried kuey teow and sweet potato leaves are delicious with good Wok Hei.

This used to be my favorite Chinese restaurant about 10 years ago. I revisited and found that they had moved to the adjacent shop due to high rental costs. Their food is still tasty, but the portions are really small—I had to visit a dessert shop afterward just to feel full. Looks like inflation is hitting everyone hard.
